Public Diplomacy

Public Diplomacy is a conduct of foreign policy by engagement with foreign public. Music, film, sports diverse citizens to understand each other. In my opinion public diplomacy is one of the tools of the soft power. Main objective of the public diplomacy is to create a positive image view or thought about a particular actor or country. It is in every country's interest to attract foreigners with their cultures traditions and make their country popular among the others. During the cold war between the superpowers U.S.A and U.S.S.R public diplomacy was very popular. Both superpowers competing with each other and trying to attrach other state actors was also part of public diplomacy. When we look at American foreign policy we can see that public diplomacy played a significant role. New advanced technology is very important in exercising public diplomacy and achieving its primary goals. For example after a terrorist attack in september 11th US government tried its best to improve public diplomacy in middle east and in Islamic World.

  2. Public diplomacy where country communicates with its citizens in other societies. The word Public Diplomacy originated as a euphemism for propaganda. The concept of public diplomacy is having substantial impact on states with are under conflict. Public Diplomacy seeks to promote the national interest of the state through understanding and influencing foreign audiences. Public Diplomacy refers to government-sponsored programs which are intended to influence public opinion in other countries and therefore its chief instruments are publications, motion pictures, cultural exchanges, radio and television. In my opinion Public Diplomacy has a bit of propaganda within itself. Public diplomacy differs from traditional diplomacy where public diplomacy deals not only with governments but also with non-governmental individuals and organizations. Traditional diplomacy actively engages one government with another government. Public Diplomacy deals with the influence of public attitudes on the formation and execution of foreign policies. It includes dimensions of international relations beyond traditional diplomacy. The development by governments of public opinion in other countries the interaction of private groups and interests in one country with those of another the reporting of foreign affairs and its impact on policy communication between those whose job is communication, as between diplomats and foreign correspondents and the processes of inter-cultural communications.
